Quiesce SnapMirror workflow
The Quiesce SnapMirror workflow prevents the start of any data transfer operation that is not already in progress between a source and destination volume in a SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship.
· You must be running Data ONTAP 8.2 or later on the affected cluster.
· A SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship must exist between the source and destination volumes.
The Quiesce SnapMirror workflow is executed to prevent the start of further data transfer activity between a source volume and a destination volume that are in a SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship. Transfer operations that are in progress when this workflow is invoked, are allowed to continue to completion or until explicitly aborted by another command, but no new transfer operations are allowed to begin. This workflow is typically executed prior to aborting a SnapMirror or SnapVault transfer so that a new transfer does not start after the current one is aborted.
1. Click Portal > Data Protection > Quiesce SnapMirror to display the Executive Workflow dialog box for the Quiesce SnapMirror workflow.
2. Specify the appropriate values for the following mandatory inputs:
o Destination cluster
o Destination storage virtual machine (SVM)
o Destination volume
3.
Click Execute.
The mandatory and optional user inputs for the Quiesce SnapMirror workflow are described below.
Input |
Description |
Destination Cluster (mandatory) |
The
name of the cluster in which the destination volume SnapMirror
or SnapVault relationship that you want to quiesce resides |
Destination Storage Virtual Machine Name (mandatory) |
The name of the SVM in which the destination volume SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship that you want to quiesce resides |
Destination Volume (mandatory) |
Destination volume of the SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship that you want to quiesce |
When completing the Quiesce SnapMirror workflow, WFA executes the following sequence of tasks:
1. Quiesce SnapMirror. WFA calls the Quiesce SnapMirror command to quiesce the SnapMirror or SnapVault relationship whose destination volume was specified for this workflow.
After the Quiesce SnapMirror workflow is invoked, any data transfer operation that is not already in progress between the source and destination volume is prevented. All data transfer operations that are in progress are allowed to continue to completion or until explicitly aborted by another command. After all in-progress transfers complete, no new transfers are started. You can now perform a break or abort operation on the SnapMirror or SnapVault source and destination volumes.
You can combine the task of this workflow with the tasks of related workflows to execute the entire sequence of operations in which the quiesce task is a necessary prior step. For example, you can include the quiesce task as the first task in a customized SnapMirror break workflow that includes the following task sequence: Quiesce, Abort, Break. In event of the source volume in a SnapMirror relationship becoming suddenly unavailable, you can invoke a customized workflow sequence to automatically quiesce that relationship, abort any ongoing data transfer, and finally break the SnapMirror relationship.
