Activate the Destination SVM workflow

The Activate the Destination SVM workflow enables you to activate the destination SVM when the source SVM is unavailable due to maintenance or in the event of a disaster. After activation, the destination SVM serves data to clients until the source is reactivated. Once the source SVM is reactivated, the destination SVM performs a data sync with the source SVM.

Prerequisites for executing the Activate the Destination SVM workflow

You must ensure that certain requirements are met before executing the Activate the Destination SVM workflow. You must be a cluster administrator for executing this workflow.

  • You must have downloaded the Activate the Destination SVM workflow from the Storage Automation Store and imported the workflow to OnCommand Workflow Automation (WFA).

  • Your system must be running clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.1 or later.
  • WFA 3.1 must be installed.
  • OnCommand Unified Manager 6.3 or later must be installed and latest data fromSVM must be imported into WFA .
  • NFS, FCP, iSCSI, CIFS and SnapMirror licenses must be enabled.
  • The source and destination clusters must be peered.
  • The source and destination Vservers must be peered.
  • The SnapMirror relationship must exist between source and destination SVM.

What happens when you execute the Activate the Destination SVM workflow

The Activate the Destination SVM workflow enables you to activate the destination SVM and serve the function of a source SVM if the source is not available due to a disaster or during maintenance.

The following illustration displays the tasks involved in the execution of the workflow:

Executing the Activate the Destination SVM workflow

The Activate the Destination SVM workflow enables you to select the required clusters and activate the destination SVM to serve data if a disaster occurs.

Before you begin

  • You must have reviewed the prerequisites for executing the workflow.

About this task

You should have the following input parameters available for executing the workflow:

  • Source and destination cluster names
  • Source and destination SVM name

Steps

  1. Log in to WFA by providing the necessary credentials.
  2. Click Portal > Data Protection > Activate the Destination Storage Virtual Machine.
Tip: You can use the filter () to locate the workflow.
  3. Click the Execute icon ().
The Execute Workflow 'Activate the Destination Storage Virtual Machine' dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the destination cluster.
  5. Select the destination SVM.
  6. Select the source cluster.
  7. Select the source SVM.
  8. Select the Do you want to update SnapMirror? check box to update the SnapMirror relationship.
  9. If preserve identity is set to true, then stop the source SVM. Otherwise, it will result in data disruption. View the workflow tooltip for more details.
  10. Optional: Click Preview to validate your workflow before executing it.
  11. Click Execute.

After you finish

You should verify that the destination SVM is activated by running the snapmirror show and vserver show commands in the destination cluster.
