Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension

Create and Initialize SVM SnapMirror relationship workflow helps you to initialize, update, or resync the SnapMirror relationship between a source Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) and a destination SVM.

This workflow helps you to recover data during disaster or maintenance.

Prerequisites for executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension workflow

You must ensure that certain requirements are met before executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension workflow. You must be a cluster administrator for executing this workflow.

  • Download the Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension workflow to OnCommand Workflow Automation (WFA).

    http://automationstore.netapp.com/pack-list.shtml

  • System must be running clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.1 or later.
  • WFA 3.1 or later must be installed.
  • OnCommand Unified Manager 6.3 or later must be installed.
  • NFS, FC, iSCSI, CIFS, and SnapMirror licenses must be enabled.
  • The source and destination clusters must be set up peered and the cluster time must be synchronized with an NTP server.

What happens when you execute the Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension workflow

Create and Initialize SVM workflow enables you to initialize, update, or resynchronize the destination SVM SnapMirror relationship for recovering data if a disaster occurs.

The following illustration displays the tasks involved in the execution of the workflow:

Executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Extension workflow

The Initialize or Update SVM SnapMirror Relationship workflow enables you to select the required clusters and SVMs for setting up a SnapMirror relationship between a source SVM and a destination SVM.

Before you begin

  • You must have downloaded and place the data-collector_volume_ext.conf configuration file in the following location as per the OS selected for the Unified Manager:
    • Windows user: C:\Program Files\NetApp\ocum\etc\data-collector
    • Linux\Virtual Appliance (vApp) user (with root login): /opt/netapp/ocum/etc/data-collector/

You can access the configuration file from here.

  • The workflow pack must be downloaded from the Storage Automation Store.
  • You must have reviewed the prerequisites for executing the workflow.

About this task

You should have the following input parameters available for executing the workflow:

  • Cluster name
  • SVM name

Steps

  1. Log in to WFA by providing the necessary credentials.
  2. Click Portal > Data Protection > Initialize or Update SVM SnapMirror Relationship.
Tip: You can use the filter () to locate the workflow.
  3. Click the Execute icon ().
The Execute Workflow 'Initialize Storage Virtual Machine SnapMirror' dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the destination cluster.
  5. Select the destination SVM.
  6. Select the source cluster.
  7. Select the source SVM.
  8. Select the required SnapMirror operation.
  9. Optional: Click Preview to validate your workflow before executing it.
  10. Click Execute.
You can also schedule the workflow for execution at a later date and time by selecting the Choose Date and Time for Execution check box.

After you finish

You should verify that the DR relationship is working correctly in the destination SVM by running the snapmirror show command in the destination cluster.
