Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship

You can use the create and initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow to set up SVM DR relationship between a source Storage Virtual Machine on a given site to a destination Storage Virtual Machine residing on a remote site. This workflow enables you to select options for Identity Preserving and Identity Discarding.

The creation and initialization of an SVM DR relationship helps during disaster recovery. After a disaster, the secondary Storage Virtual Machine is be brought online manually or by executing the other workflows.

Prerequisites for executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow

You must ensure that certain requirements are met before executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow. You must be a cluster administrator for executing this workflow.

  • Your system must be running clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.1 or later.
  • OnCommand Workflow Automation (WFA) 3.1 or later must be installed.

  • You must have added any version of OnCommand Unified Manager 6.3 through 9.5 or Active IQ Unified Manager 9.6 or later as a data source in WFA and obtained the latest Unified Manager data.
  • The source and destination clusters must be peered.
  • The source and destination storage virtual machines (SVMs) must be peered.
  • SnapMirror license must be installed on the source and destination clusters.
  • The appropriate protocol license, such as CIFS, NFS, FCP, must be installed.
  • The cluster must be set up and the cluster time must be synchronised with an NTP server.

What happens when you execute the Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow

The Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow enables you to create an SVM disaster recovery relationship between the source and destination SVMs.

The disaster recovery relationship is created between a source SVM on a given site to a destination SVM on a remote site.

The following illustration displays the main tasks involved in executing the workflow:

Executing the Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow

The Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow enables you to establish a disaster recovery relationship between the source and destination SVMs.

Before you begin

You must have reviewed the prerequisites for executing the workflow.

About this task

You should have the following input parameters available for executing the workflow:
  • Cluster name
  • Source and destination SVM name
  • Aggregate name
  • Optional: SnapMirror information such as the schedule and policy details
  • CIFS service details
  • Domain-related details such as the name and credentials required to run the workflow

Steps

  1. Log in to WFA using the appropriate credentials.
  2. Click Portal > Data Protection > Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship.
Tip: You can use the filter () to locate the workflow.
  3. Click the Execute icon ().
  4. Select the source cluster and source SVMs.
  5. Select the Do you want to preserve identity? check box to replicate the preserve identity to the destination SVM.
  6. Select the If Source SVM has CIFS Enabled, Ensure to Configure CIFS check box to configure CIFS.
  7. Select the destination cluster.
  8. Select the destination SVM.
  9. Optional: Select the aggregate.
  10. Initialize the SnapMirror and select an existing SnapMirror policy and schedule.
  11. Configure CIFS.
  12. Optional: Click Preview to validate your workflow before executing it.
  13. Click Execute.
You can also schedule the workflow for execution at a later date and time by selecting the Choose date and time for execution check box.

After you finish

You should verify that the disaster recovery relationship is working correctly in the destination SVM by running the snapmirror show, vserver show commands in the destination cluster.
