Introduction to the SVM DR workflow pack

The Storage Virtual Machine (SVM) Disaster Recovery (DR) workflow pack is a solution that provides disaster recovery capability at the granularity of Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs) by enabling the recovery of data present in the constituent volumes of the SVM and the recovery of SVM configuration.

The SVM DR extension workflow pack enables you to use the following workflows:

Unified Manager DataCollector file manager workflow
This workflow places the DataCollector configuration files in the following operating system folders for OnCommand Unified Manager:
  • Windows user: C:\Program Files\NetApp\ocum\etc\data-collector
  • Linux\Virtual Appliance (vApp) user (with root login): /opt/netapp/ocum/etc/data-collector

The configuration file can be accessed from here. You must place the DataCollector configuration files in the server where OnCommand Workflow Automation server is installed. After the workflow is executed, you must reset the scheme and must acquire datasource from OnCommand Workflow Automation.

Create and Initialize SVM DR Relationship workflow
This workflow enables you to create a DR relationship between a source SVM on a given site and a destination SVM on a remote site. This workflow enables you to initialize or update the SnapMirror relationship between a source SVM and a destination SVM. This workflow helps you to recover data during disaster or maintenance and enables you to select either the Identity Preserving or Identity Discarding option. This workflow selects the volumes to be excluded or included during replication in ONTAP 9.0 or later versions. The volume selection for "protection" will be set vice-versa. Because the default value is "protected", the value changes to "unprotected" . Therefore, the initial selection excludes the volume from replication. In clustered Data ONTAP 8.3.1 or earlier versions, you can replicate all volumes. You can discard the LIF and route in ONTAP software. When a disaster occurs, the destination SVM must be made online manually or by executing the Activate Destination SVM workflow.
Configure Protocol Services for SVM workflow
This workflow enables you to configure protocols on a destination SVM. This workflow enables you to configure protocols such as network-attached storage (NAS), Common Internet File System (CIFS), Network File System (NFS), Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP), or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) for the destination SVM that is configured for DR. Configuring protocols for an SVM enables you to restore data by using the appropriate protocols when the source SVM or destination SVM is unresponsive. You can configure protocol services for a destination SVM when the SnapMirror relationship is 'Identity-Discard' and the protocol services do not replicate from the source SVM to the destination SVM. You can configure all or any one of the protocol services for the same SVM.
Activate the Destination SVM workflow
This workflow enables you to activate a destination SVM when it is unavailable due to maintenance or in the event of a disaster. After activation, the destination SVM serves data to clients until the source SVM is reactivated.
Failback to Source SVM workflow
This workflow enables you to resynchronize information from a destination SVM and reactivate the source SVM if the source SVM is temporarily unavailable. You can also re-create a source SVM if the source SVM is completely destroyed due to a disaster. This workflow provides an option to change the volume protection configuration on the secondary SVM after activation of an SVM. You can protect or unprotect the volume in flip direction.
Initialize or Update SVM SnapMirror Relationship workflow
This workflow helps you to initialize, update, or resync the SnapMirror relationship between a source SVM and a destination SVM.
Transition of SVM DR from 7-Mode to clustered Data ONTAP mode workflow
This workflow enables you to transition an SVM DR from 7-Mode to clustered Data ONTAP mode. This workflow enables you to resync the SVM DR relationship. For the 7-Mode to clustered Data ONTAP workflow, the volume must be migrated from 7-Mode to clustered Data ONTAP. The volume must be in the SnapMirror relationship and the volume state must be in SnapMirror idle state.
Clone SVM DR Volumes workflow
This workflow enables you to clone anSVM Disaster Protection (DP) volume that is protected by aSVM DR relationship on the third SVM in a cluster. This clone is created on an existingSVM or on a new SVM.
Create Snapshot Table workflow
This workflow enables you to create a snapshot of volumes in an SVM. You must execute this workflow before executing the Cloning of SVM DR Volumes workflow. The snapshot name is mandatory for DP volume and the Flexclone licenses must be enabled.
