Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow

During a MetroCluster switchover operation, all SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations are not replicated on the disaster site. The Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow enables you to create SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations after switchover is complete.

The following example image illustrates clusters in a MetroCluster environment and a stand-alone cluster in a non-MetroCluster environment.

The image provides an example of a relationship between clusters in a MetroCluster environment and a standalone cluster in a non_MetroCluster environment.

If the local site goes down, the remote site (disaster recovery (DR) site) immediately starts functioning. The MetroCluster switchover operation moves storage and client access from the source cluster (cluster in the local site) to the remote site. After the remote site is recovered and aggregate healing is done, the MetroCluster switchback operation returns storage and client access from the remote site to the original source cluster. However, the SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations are not replicated on the remote site. This workflow enables you to re-create these configurations after switchover. You can select the MetroCluster cluster whose SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations have to be re-created after the switchover operation.

The following sections provide details about the workflow and how to execute the workflow:

Prerequisites for executing the Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow

You must ensure that certain requirements are met before executing the Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow. You must be a cluster administrator for executing this workflow.

  • Your system must be running clustered Data ONTAP.
Note: This workflow is qualified to work with Data ONTAP 8.3 and later.
  • OnCommand Workflow Automation (WFA) 3.0 or later must be installed.
  • You must have added OnCommand Unified Manager 6.2 or later as a data source in WFA and obtained the latest Unified Manager data.
  • The state of the DR site must be switched over.
  • A SnapMirror relationship must exist between the local site and the non-MetroCluster site.
  • The MetroCluster cluster and the non-MetroCluster cluster must be peered.
  • The Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs) on the MetroCluster source and the non-MetroCluster cluster must be peered.

What happens when you execute the Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow

The Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow enables you to re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations after the switchover operation.

Note: The workflow does not include the verification procedure.

The following illustration displays the tasks involved in executing the workflow:

Executing the Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow

The Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover workflow enables you to re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations after switchover is complete.

Before you begin

  • The workflow pack must be downloaded from the Storage Automation Store.
  • You must have reviewed the prerequisites for executing the workflow.

About this task

For executing the workflow, you should know the name of the MetroCluster cluster in which the SnapMirror and SnapVault configurations have to be re-created.

Steps

  1. Log in to WFA by providing the necessary credentials.
  2. Click Portal > Data Protection > Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover.
Tip: You can use the filter () to locate the workflow.
  3. Click the Execute icon ().
The Execute Workflow 'Re-create SnapMirror and SnapVault Protection after MetroCluster Switchover' dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the MetroCluster cluster.
  5. Optional: Click Preview to validate your workflow before executing it.
  6. Click Execute.
You can also schedule the workflow for execution at a later date and time by selecting the Choose Date and Time for Execution check box.

After you finish

You should verify the SnapMirror and SnapVault relationship details by running the snapmirror show command from the Data ONTAP command-line interface (CLI). The command output displays the following information about the SnapMirror relationships by default:
  • Source path
  • Relationship type
  • Destination path
  • Mirror state
  • Relationship status
  • Total progress
  • Health
  • Progress last updated
